The Story Behind Roots to Results — Why I Wanted to Start This Podcast

When I think about leadership—what shapes it, what strengthens it, and what challenges it—I’m always drawn to the personal stories behind the leaders we admire. Leadership isn’t just about strategies, titles, or accolades. It’s deeply connected to the experiences we carry with us, especially the ones from our earliest days. Roots to Results was born out of this belief: that to truly understand leadership, we need to dig into the roots that nourish it.

My Own Leadership Journey

Before I dive into why I started Roots to Results, I want to share a bit about my own leadership journey and how my early experiences shaped who I am today. Growing up, I was no stranger to navigating complex dynamics. My family, like many, had its share of highs and lows, and I quickly learned how to read the emotional undercurrents in a room. Being attuned to others' emotions became one of my greatest strengths but also a challenge—there were times I struggled with setting boundaries or felt the weight of perfectionism.

I’ve also had to overcome the pull of codependency, learning that being a strong leader doesn’t mean constantly sacrificing your needs for others. These early experiences pushed me toward developing emotional intelligence and resilience, traits that I now recognize as foundational to my leadership. They’ve guided me in my work, not only as a consultant but in my personal mission to help others navigate their own leadership journeys.

Why I Wanted to Start Roots to Results

As someone who’s spent years working in organizational development and leadership consulting, I’ve witnessed firsthand how a leader’s personal story shapes their style and approach. Whether it’s a sense of resilience born from hardship or a compassionate style developed through family dynamics, I’ve always been fascinated by the invisible thread that connects our personal histories to our professional lives.

My own journey is proof of how our early experiences influence the leaders we become. I wanted to create a space where leaders could reflect on their stories and share those critical, sometimes messy, formative experiences. Roots to Results is that space—a platform where leaders pull back the curtain and openly discuss how their childhood, family, and personal challenges have molded them into the leaders they are today.

What I Hope to Accomplish

The goal of Roots to Results is simple: to deepen our understanding of leadership by exploring the often untold stories behind it. Through candid conversations, I hope to:

  • Uncover personal narratives that show how early life experiences influence leadership strengths and growth areas.

  • Bridge the gap between personal and professional growth by highlighting the ways family dynamics and childhood experiences impact decision-making, resilience, and emotional intelligence.

  • Inspire reflection and connection, both for listeners and guests. Leadership is a journey, and I believe we all have something to learn from each other’s paths, particularly when it comes to overcoming challenges, embracing strengths, and growing through adversity.

By sharing these stories, I want listeners to see leadership through a more human lens. Leadership isn’t about perfection. It’s shaped by the unique, personal journeys we’ve each taken—the struggles, triumphs, and everything in between. If Roots to Results can inspire even one person to reflect on their own leadership story or encourage someone to grow through their challenges, I’ll feel that I’ve succeeded.

A Journey of Reflection and Growth

At its core, Roots to Results is about understanding that we don’t become leaders in isolation. We bring our whole selves into our work—our personal histories, family dynamics, and emotional patterns all contribute to the type of leader we become. By exploring these roots, I believe we can better understand the results we see in leadership today.

As someone whose leadership has been deeply shaped by my own early experiences, I’m thrilled to embark on this journey. I invite you to join me. Whether you’re a leader, aspiring to lead, or simply curious about the stories behind leadership, Roots to Results offers insight, inspiration, and the opportunity for reflection. I’m excited to share these powerful conversations with you and hope they spark something meaningful in your own leadership journey.

Stay tuned, listen in, and remember—leadership starts with the roots we grow from.
